How we score plastic surgeons in Ontario
What this page covers
Ontario Plastic Surgery Directory currently scores 200 plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery businesses across Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton, Brampton and the surrounding areas. This page explains exactly how that score is built, what each input measures, and where the method falls short. We would rather you know the mechanics than trust us blindly.
The five signals, in order of weight
Every business gets a composite score out of 100, built from five measured signals. We list them here from heaviest to lightest, because the order tells you what we think matters most when you are choosing someone to do your surgery.
- Sentiment, 28%. A synthesis of what recent reviews actually say: recurring praise, recurring complaints, and the specific themes that come up (bedside manner, results, scarring, follow-up care, billing surprises). This is the single heaviest input.
- Rating, 26%. The Google aggregate star rating, taken as-is.
- Volume, 20%. How many reviews a business has, log-scaled. This stops a practice with five reviews from scoring the same as one with five hundred just because both average four and a half stars.
- Recency, 12%. How recently patients have been leaving reviews. A clinic that hasn't had a fresh review in two years tells you less about its current staff, wait times, or surgeon roster than one reviewed last month.
- Completeness, 14%. Whether basic listing information (phone number, website, hours, address) is present and accurate. A practice that's easy to reach and verify is, practically speaking, easier to trust and easier to book with.
Why sentiment carries the most weight
A star average is a single number, and single numbers hide patterns. Two clinics can both sit at 4.6 stars while one has a spread of happy, unrelated feedback and the other has a cluster of recent reviews all describing the same problem, whether that's rushed consultations, inconsistent results, or poor communication after a procedure. Averages don't distinguish between those two situations. Reading what people actually wrote does. That's why we weight sentiment above the raw rating itself: it's the only signal that can catch a repeated, specific issue that the stars alone would smooth over. For a decision as personal as who performs your surgery, that distinction matters more than almost anything else we measure.
Where the method is limited, and we say so
We synthesize themes from reviews. We do not republish or quote them directly, and we always link back to the source on Google so you can read the original reviews yourself and reach your own conclusions.
Businesses with few recent reviews don't get penalized silently. They get flagged. When there isn't enough recent data to support a confident score, we label that listing as low-confidence, so you know to weigh it accordingly rather than assume it was scored on equal footing with a heavily-reviewed practice.
What never changes the score
Scores come from the rubric above and nothing else. Where paid placement exists on this site, it is always labelled clearly as paid and it never affects a business's score or its position in a ranked list. Any list where the picks or order involved editorial judgment rather than the scoring formula alone discloses that directly on the page. If a page doesn't say that, its order came from the score.
Who's behind this
Ontario Plastic Surgery Directory has published since 2026 and connects patients across Ontario with board-certified plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgery clinics, covering breast augmentation, facial procedures, body contouring, injectables, and reconstructive surgery in Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton and Brampton. Editorial oversight of the rankings sits with Elena Moreau, Editorial Lead. Data is refreshed monthly, and each listing carries a "last verified" stamp so you can see the maintenance is ongoing rather than a one-time snapshot.

FAQ
- How often is the scoring data updated?
- Monthly. Each listing also shows a last-verified stamp so you can see when its details were last checked.
- Does paid placement affect a business's score?
- No. Where paid placement exists it is always labelled, and it never changes a business's score or its position in a ranked list.
- Why do some listings show a low-confidence label?
- That label appears when a business has too few recent reviews to support a reliable score. It's there so you can weigh that listing appropriately rather than assume it was scored with the same certainty as a heavily-reviewed practice.
- Do you publish the reviews themselves?
- No. We synthesize recurring themes from recent reviews rather than republishing them, and we link out to the source on Google so you can read the originals yourself.
